Gallery Concert: Philip Glass Piano Etudes | Richard Serra Drawings

Friday 10 December 2021, 11am

In collaboration with MusicArt, Ordovas presents a piano concert inspired by the friendship between Richard Serra and Philip Glass featuring Annie Yim, piano

Ordovas, 25 Savile Row, London, W1S 2ER

Pianist Annie Yim performs Philip Glass’s Piano Etudes at Ordovas in conjunction with the gallery’s 10th anniversary exhibition – Richard Serra’s Drawings. Inspired by the decades-long close artistic friendship between Richard Serra and composer Philip Glass, the concert will include Glass’s Piano Etudes: 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9.

“To be working with Richard was an irreplaceable experience…The development of my own musical language, at least conceptually (not at all a small point!), had a relationship to Richard’s development.” – Philip Glass on Richard Serra, from his memoir Words Without Music, 2015

Concerts on the Farm Festival

Vancouver – August 28 & 29, 2020

Concerts on the Farm is a new summer festival of open-air concerts over two days on an organic farm in the idyllic Southlands in Vancouver, featuring live hour-long performances by guest musicians. Concerts will include music ranging from Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata to his last String Quartet, from Bach to Ligeti.

This festival is inspired by the joy of summer harvest and sustainable farming at Inner City Farms. At a time when the coronavirus pandemic has separated us and our connections have become virtual, Concerts on the Farm brings together the essentials that awaken our senses: the sights and sounds of a bountiful green farm and live classical music.

Directed by pianist Annie Yim, founder of MusicArt (who also volunteers on the farm), the concert artists contributing their talent in support of this Festival include renowned pianists Robert Silverman and Mark Anderson, cellist Jonathan Lo, violinist Timothy Steeves (Associate Concertmaster of Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) and the Emily Carr String Quartet.

about the project

‘Concerts on the Farm is a symbolic and unexpected child of the times. The project originated from conversations with Camil Dumont, head farmer of Inner City Farms and chair of the Vancouver Park Board, and other volunteers on his urban organic farm where I started volunteering in Southlands in June. Nature is a source of inspiration for music, and Camil’s beautiful, sustainable farm has been an inspiration to me. The last few months of silence in normal concert life has been a shock to many musicians, and I hope we will emerge from this silence with resilience and fresh creativity.’ - Annie Yim, pianist and artistic director of Concerts on the Farm Festival.
